Michael J. Bestul - CIO - IT Strategic Plan for FSU
In my role as Vice President & CIO of Fairmont State University, I was tasked by the President of the institution with creating an IT strategic plan. More importantly, I created a planning process for the university for IT and Library services. The link below is the resulting document from the year-long planning effort.

Michael J. Bestul - CIO - JCU's First CIO
In the spring of 2008, I was approached by a national search firm (Witt-Kieffer) about a CIO opportunity at John Carroll University (JCU) in University Heights, OH. John Carroll University is a selective private Jesuit institution with approximately 3,300 undergraduate students and 800 graduate students. Previously, JCU had an Executive Director as their highest level IT executive. After a rigorous search process and series of on-campus interviews, it has been my great honor to be named JCU's first Chief Information Officer, thus bringing a strategic component to the IT function for the institution.

During my tenure as the State of Wisconsin Investment Board's Information (SWIB) Technology Director, I developed an IT strategic plan for the organization, and implemented a series of integrated software products to help SWIB address some long-standing issues in the areas of portfolio management, compliance, risk management, trading, and custodial banking interactions. The article below describes the purchase of the primary product for portfolio management, compliance tracking, and investment accounting.
